Axis Golfe Ponte de Lima hosted another qualifying round for the National Final of the world’s largest corporate golf tournament.

On May 30, Ponte de Lima hosted the 3rd qualifier of the World Corporate Golf Challenge Portugal by LG, bringing together entrepreneurs, executives, and business leaders from several regions of the country on the challenging course of Axis Golfe Ponte de Lima.

As part of the world’s largest corporate golf tournament, the World Corporate Golf Challenge continues to establish itself as a premier platform for networking, business relationships, and the promotion of sporting values, providing participants with a unique experience both on and off the course.

The competition remained intense throughout the day at Axis Golfe Ponte de Lima, with the duo of Jaime Cunha and Rui Lira Silva, representing APR Mediação Seguros, claiming first place in the Net classification and securing their spot in the National Final of the World Corporate Golf Challenge Portugal by AUDI. Second place in the Net classification went to João Martins Ribeiro and Francisco Lopo, representing FL Construções. In the Gross classification, the standout team was CGPL 2, composed of José Simão Oliveira and Custódio Castro, who secured first place in the category. The winning team in the Net classification did not hide their delight at the achievement: “We have been trying to reach the World Corporate Golf Challenge Final for a long time. We have participated in recent years and have always come very close. This victory represents the culmination of all our effort and dedication over time. It is immensely satisfying to finally achieve this goal.”

For Paulo Sousa, Vice-President of the Municipality of Ponte de Lima, hosting this event represents an important opportunity to promote the region:

“The fact that this tournament is held in Ponte de Lima is very important to us because it allows us to promote not only sport, but also the region itself. Today, it is impossible to separate quality of life from a close connection to nature, excellent public services, and outstanding gastronomy. I am convinced that this type of event is essential for showcasing Ponte de Lima, Portugal’s oldest town, and highlighting everything that makes us unique. These tournaments bring together people from various parts of the country, giving them the opportunity to play golf on an outstanding course while also discovering more about this extraordinary town.”

Manuel de Miguel, Director of Axis Golfe Ponte de Lima, also highlighted the importance of the competition for both the club and the region:

“It is a tremendous honour for Ponte de Lima to host this stage of the World Corporate Golf Challenge, which is part of the world’s largest amateur corporate golf tournament. We do everything within our power to present the course in the best possible condition and to ensure that every player leaves here satisfied and speaking highly of Ponte de Lima. That is our main objective.”

The main sponsor, LG Portugal, once again reinforced its commitment to the event. The brand’s representative highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership:

“It is an honour for LG to be associated with the World Corporate Golf Challenge as the main sponsor. As one of the leading consumer electronics brands in Portugal, we feel a responsibility to remain close to our customers and partners. This event is particularly important because it brings together entrepreneurs, executives, and decision-makers, enabling us to strengthen relationships, create new business opportunities, and consolidate partnerships. For LG, it is a unique platform for enhancing networking and maintaining close ties with the Portuguese business community.”

The Executive Partner of WCGC Portugal also emphasised the national scope of the project and the importance of partner support:

“The World Corporate Golf Challenge is a truly national circuit. We often say it is a nomadic circuit because it travels across the country from north to south, with the aim of staying close to players and companies, whether regional or national. Our purpose is to bring together golf and the business world through a unique networking platform. The support of partners such as LG gives the event great credibility and is essential to its growth. We share the same values of networking, closeness, and building long-lasting relationships with companies and clients.”

With another qualifier completed, the World Corporate Golf Challenge Portugal by LG moves closer to the final stretch of the season, continuing to provide unique experiences to participants and to strengthen the connection between sport and the business world.

The last qualifying stage will take place on June 26, before the National Final, where the teams that will represent Portugal at the World Final of the World Corporate Golf Challenge will be decided.
